Vaults of the Ancients is out today, adding in a sizeable chunk of new content. The biggest addition, and the one which all three achievements revolve around, are the Treasure Vaults. Rare says these were built by the "ancient people who once dwelt on the Sea of Thieves," and filled with "devious traps and puzzles." The Gold Hoarders have been using them to store their treasure, but are starting to get a little worried about Flameheart finding his way in. This is where you come in: the Gold Hoarders want you to find the Vault Keys and bring them back before Flameheart can get his hands on them, and you'd better be ready, as this sounds like quite a convoluted process. You'll need to start by finding a number of buried golden rum bottles, using the Golden Hoarders Golden Wayfinder. Each of these bottles will have a single piece of a map, and you can find them all to learn the location of a Vault Key — although there is an achievement for finding a Vault Key with just one piece of Torn Map Parchment. Once you've pieced the map back together from all those scattered, separate bits, you can find the Vault Key. This can either be returned to the Gold Hoarders for a reward, or used yourself to access the Treasure Vault.

These Treasure Vaults seem like the more profitable choice. From the look of it, they're filled to the brim with gold and other valuables, but the ultimate prize seems to be the Chest of Ancient Tributes. However, there's still traps and puzzles to contend with, so if you're looking for the easiest way to earn a reward, it would probably be best to take the Key straight back to the Gold Hoarders. Treasure Vault Voyages can be started by speaking to Gold Hoarders at any Outpost. If you're below rank 25, you can get the voyage by talking to Larinna at the taverns.

This new content update also adds dogs to Sea of Thieves for the first time, and you can choose between Inus, Whippets and Alsatians, as well as between coat patterns. They can be found in the Pirate Emporium along with new emotes — and a free Dancing Dog emote.

Sea of Thieves is developed by Rare and published by Xbox Game Studios, and was released on March 20th 2018.

The game is available via Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
