County Commission Chairman Mary Hunt holds a town hall meeting on SSI about her proposal to turn the Commission Chairman position to a full time position and elected by the Glynn County residents. Ms. Hunt has been doing this job for a while and has a "combat veteran's" perspective. We wonder that for a job that over sees a $50+ million budget should perhaps not selected by a political majority on the Board itself but by the taxpaying electorate of the County. In the words of that great philosopher Yogi Berra: "If you done it, it ain't braggin'"

Like English Cricket, the play rules for Roller Derby seem to be very mysterious to an outsider but in the match between Glynn County's South Coast Derby Dolls and the New South Roller Derby was spirited and energetic --the match was held Sunday afternoon at the Funtown Roller Rink.

Glynn Country Schools Police Chief Rod Ellis invited Chief Matt Doering of the Glynn County Police Dept. to come to Brunswich High to talk with juniors and seniors about the dangers of designer drugs and how they can take control of you. Chief Doering knows a lot about this subject, as you will hear, but it's the message from Cap Fendig and his wife Catherine that brought a great silence in the room.

To escape the frenzy on SSI, we went to a block paty in Darien and got sung at by Saddlebum, a quartet that rocked until dark -- during which we, in the age of modern communications, occaisionally crossed the parking lot of capture the end of the Big Game -- we claim no ownership to the coyright of others.

Today we started by visiting the Heinze murder trial and walked into the courtroom in time to hear Judge Scarlett replace one of the jurors and instructed the new jury to "throw out the current verdict forms and begin deliberations anew...." -- the new jury subsequently returned a guilty verdict 4 hours later -- then we proceeded to the Chamber of Commerce's conference room to speak with the two candidates for mayor of Brunswick: Starling Sutton and Cornell Harvey. We thought the first question should be about the hard stuff, like crime and violence. Mr. Harvey starts the conversation:

Our two Moscow reporters are weighing in on how Moscow is fixing their parks but, as they do right here in Glynn County, specifically Sea Island and Jekyll whose mission seems to install improvements that seek well-heeled customers in favor of the local people -- how many generations of people going to the Cloister or to Jekyll as part of their Georgia heritage, seem no longer welcome....also: we're working on the translation issues and next week they will be doing a report on designer drugs in Moscow which, like Boston and many other places, is epidemic.

When Franc DÁmbrosio was an opera student and working his straight job as a babysitter in the West Village in NYC, he was suddenly cast as Michael Corelone's opera singing son in Godfather III. This is from early 2008 when he came to Brunswick to sing and we were able to get connected with him and shared a million memories of NYC back in the day. Best of luck, Franc, and please say hello to your gangsta Dad for us...
