That when she performed her "Passacaglia" with A Roomful of Teeth at Spectrum, that a month later, to the day, she would be awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Music. The crew at Spectrum and Our Net News congratulate Caroline Shaw on her accomplishment -- great for music, great for women in music, great for vocal music, great all around....

The voice of the People showed up in force last Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the Community Board #4. The Board is charged with making sure city regulations are followed and on this particular night, the operators of Boxer's Sports Bar at 742 9th Avenue were asked to appear to shed light on certain issues -- it seems they agreed to a set of stipulations concerning the number of patrons, closing hours, etc.and how to best utilize the roof area, which now is coded for 48 people, as long as there is sit down dinner service -- these things can get very convoluted....

Generally recognized as the father of the Neo-Romantic movement in music, David Del Tredici has received numerous awards (including the Pulitzer Prize) and has been commissioned and performed by nearly every major American and European orchestral ensemble. "Del Tredici," said Aaron Copland, "is that rare find among composers — a creator with a truly original gift. I venture to say that his music is certain to make a lasting impression on the American musical scene. Matt Siffert is a New York City-based composer, songwriter, and bassist. He is committed to these duties as individual crafts, as well as exploring the connections between all three. Lucid Culture praised his interdisciplinary approach to music-making as “something entirely new.”
As a composer, he has premiered music locally and internationally, from Le Poisson Rouge in New York City to Villa La Pietra in Florence. He has worked with groups such as Imani Winds, Wet Ink, Trio Kavak, and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). His music has been described as “bluesy, yet searchingly pensive” by Examiner.

In his marathon trek from Key West, FL to Campobello Island in Canada, he took a side trip thru NYC -- Google told him to go around but Google didn't tell him the hills in New England are worse as you go north -- so we talked him into using the old Boston Post Road (US 1) and ride along the coast: the result? He pedalled from Jersey City, NY to New Haven, CT -- on local streets! Anyone who claims this guy isn't a biking MONSTER should be reported to us.....

Jason Rogers, third from left, from Waycross, is shown just north of Waverly on the sixth day of his ride from Key West to Campobello Island, Canada. With him Friday were, from left, Charlie Moore, Lance Brantley, Dalton Rogers, Moi Monroe, Chip Sasser and James Fordyce. The other riders were expected to drop out at the end of Friday's ride leaving him riding solo in his fund raiser for Camp Reveille, a summer camp at the Waycross Family YMCA for children whose families can't afford camp. Today's video is of our coverage of him in 2011 after biking from San Diego to St. Simons Island, GA. This ex-GI is now riding from Key West, FL ro Lubek, ME. He's in Virginia tonight -- headed for NYC!
